Appeals Court Orders that Overdetained Prisoners Can Proceed with Class Action

The Seventh Circuit handed a major victory to a class of inmates overdetained in the Marion County Jail when it reversed the district court’s decision denying class certification and held that a class of inmates can challenge the Sheriff’s practice of taking up to 72 hours to release inmates after a court order to release them and delaying those releases due to the use of an inadequate computer system.
